01/ 26/17 I researched a bit about Kelly Meashey, a music therapist and asked if she could possibly be my mentor. I began to take notes on the different components of music like their specific definitions. I also to look into what music therapists do when trying to treat depression. I found a few articles, but most that seem most helpful, are not accessible. 01/20/17 I haven't gotten a response from Kelly Meashey. Today, I read "Music Theory for Review," an article that talks about music therapy and its success rate and how it compares to other treatments. I also began to read about music and how it affects mood, although since it is a bit dated, it doesn't include much information about its effects when using it for therapeutic purposes.
01/22/18 I contacted Julie Lipson, a music therapist, about a possible mentor position. I also began to gather information about rhythm. 01/24/18 Today, I began writing about timbre and how certain timbres affect a person psychologically.
01/16/18 Today, I contacted someone else as a mentor because my previous attempt did not work out. I also think that since I can't find accessible sources where generalized anxiety disorder and major depression are linked with certain components of music, I will only focus on one of the mental illnesses, depression. 01/18/18 Today, I found sources that talked about musical components and their effects on emotion. I found a few that briefly mention at least one component, but I need a few more articles that deal with the components more specifically.
01/09/18 I searched for a mentor and found, Danielle Kamica King, a music therapist. I also worked a bit on Terry Foundation Scholarship for University of Texas at Dallas. 01/11/18 Today, I contacted King and found an interesting book that could help me with understanding how the seven components of music relate to someone's state. I also found a few other articles that would help with using receptive music therapy to help someone's depression and anxiety, but I was unable to access it.
